An eagerly awaited solar battery rebate program is has launched. The Australian Government is making batteries cheaper, slashing energy bills for households, small businesses and community facilities by up to 90%.

The Clean Energy Regulator is rolling out the $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program from 1 July 2025, reducing the cost of a typical battery by over 30%.

The rebate is delivered through the existing Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme – the program that has successfully delivered solar subsidies since 2011, meaning that applying for, and receiving the rebate will be quick and efficient and allows us to offer the customer an upfront discount on the cost of the battery.

WHAT IS THE FEDERAL BATTERY REBATE?

Australia’s next energy breakthrough is here. The Federal Labor Government, has announced a new national initiative — the Cheaper Home Batteries program — if re-elected at May’s federal election.

This program aims to make battery storage more affordable and accessible to Australian homeowners, helping households reduce power bills, increase energy independence, and support the nation’s clean energy future.

ABOUT THE REBATE

The program is being spearheaded by the Clean Energy Council, with strong backing from the Federal Labor Government, the Greens, and Independents. It will deliver rebates to homeowners who install eligible battery systems, making battery storage cheaper and more widely available than ever before.

It will be rolled-out under the Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) program, which has helped millions of Australians go solar since 2011. Using a tried-and-tested model, the battery rebate will be administered by the Renewable Energy Regulator under the Renewable Energy Certificate scheme — offering clarity and consistency across the country.

HOW MUCH IS THE REBATE?

The Government is delivering a $370 per kWh battery rebate starting from 1 July. That means:

✅ A typical 20kWh home battery system would be eligible for a $7,400 rebate
✅ A small business could access up to a $18,000 rebate for larger commercial battery systems

This initiative is designed to reduce the upfront cost of battery storage, helping Australians store their solar energy for use at night or during blackouts — and take even more control over their power bills.
