WHAT IS THE QUEENSLAND BATTERY BOOSTER REBATE?

In late December 2023, the Queensland Government released preliminary information about the upcoming Battery Booster Rebate. Although final details are set to be released in early 2024, here’s what we know so far.

The Queensland Government’s Battery Booster program is set to offer rebates to eligible residents, allowing them to purchase and install solar battery systems for their homes, compatible with both new and existing rooftop solar setups.

ABOUT THE SCHEME

Part of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan, the program aims to reduce energy expenses and alleviate cost-of-living pressures for Queenslanders. Specific eligibility criteria will be in place for households to qualify for the program, with comprehensive details available upon the program’s launch.

Key eligibility requirements include:

Maximum Income: Applicants must have a combined annual household taxable income of $180,000 or less.

Battery Purchase Date: Home battery systems will only qualify if purchased during the program’s open period and after the applicant has received conditional approval in the application process. Batteries acquired prior to the program opening date and before obtaining conditional approval will not be eligible.

Minimum Battery System Size: A minimum 6-kilowatt hour (kWh) battery must be purchased from an approved list, which will be published on this webpage at the program’s opening.
Approved Battery System: Only systems featured on the approved list will qualify for the rebate.
Minimum Solar PV System Size: Households must have a solar PV system of at least 5 kW (new or existing).
Approved Installer: Installation must be carried out by an Approved Installer, with a list of approved installers available on this webpage at the program’s opening.
